The Piano School

Anna Levy, DMA, Piano – Gregory Myers, PhD, Music Theory

Our Mandate

“The personal example is the only way to influence others.”

Albert Einstein

We live according to this mandate: Anna Levy enjoys an active career as a soloist, recording artist, and chamber musician, championing contemporary and undiscovered compositions. She has received support from the Burnaby and British Columbia Arts Councils, as well as the CBC. Gregory Myers is active internationally as a scholar, researcher and author. He regularly participates in scholarly conferences in Canada, the United States and Europe. His second book is slated for publication this fall. He is also listed as an examiner for the Toronto Conservatory.

Together, we have established a high-level music studio in which we are able to expound rigorous Eastern European methods of music pedagogy. We believe that music education is not limited to any system, nor does it stop with the Royal Conservatory of Music. This is just the beginning. Our students have been accepted into the music programs of McGill University, University of Toronto, University of Victoria, and the University of British Columbia. Today they are our colleagues.

Our Method

Anna Levy holds her Doctorate of Musical Arts from one of the world’s prominent musical institutions, The Moscow Conservatory. Her teaching methods are based on Eastern-European traditions of hard working and ambition. Over 25 years of teaching experience has enabled her to recognize the individual potential of all her students and successfully achieve their goals.

Music Theory and History

A comprehensive program of music theory and history is taught by Dr. Myers either in small groups or on a one-to-one basis.

Gregory Myers holds Bachelor of Music a PhD in historical musicology and the Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Master of Arts in Musicology from the University of Virginia. In addition, he has also pursued his studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the Moscow Conservatory. He is active as a musicologist, bibliographer, author, and teacher. He has lectured at Ohio State University, the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and Simon Fraser University, and has been a member of the teaching faculty at both Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Douglas College. In 1998 he co-founded East-West School of Music with his wife, Anna Levy.
